Le blog est mort. Vive le blog!
Welly, well, wells. Looks as if the mothership has undergone a redesign which will allow us a blog format under her protective umbrella. What I'm saying is you should go to the link below and follow that as eboogaloo.blogspot.com will no longer be updated. The new digs are swank and designed by minds with creative tendencies and abilities. Also, there are live links to our twitter feed, as well as streams of the last two shows. We'll be importing the rest of our history from here, soon too.

Georgia Soul Council's Back!
Before we get into the GSC, the Treacherous one was on hand this past Thursday when yours truly couldn't be. And, of course, you listeners were in good hands. He laid it down like a baby after a feeding with some delectable tunes, both old and new. Check out the stream if you missed it or, understandably, need it again (link is replaced @ 2300hrs 09/01/11).

End of an Era Monday
If you've listened at all to 88.5's Soul Kitchen or been to any gig where funk music is being played in the past 10 or so years, you're probably familiar with one (DJ Dr.) Adam Bomb. Well apparently Ga. State has allowed him to graduate which means his reign of terror at Album coming to a close. Check out his final shift on Monday August 15 which begins at 6pm with 2 hours of rotation and culminates in the final culinary explosion you've come to expect when the Bomb's in the Kitchen Mondays from 8 to 10. Again, this isn't the end of the Soul Kitchen, just Adam Bomb's legacy there.
Yeah, yeah, this is the infrequently updated blog of the Electric Boogaloo, but we are benevolent with our brothers in funk. I know it's been a while, and I'm gonna quit promising to update this more often, so just deal with it and stay funky. You can always get our playlist fresh out of the oven on twitter, but here's what we dropped last week. Ride the wave here.

Last Night of the AFS
One of A-town's best and brightest lineups, who do their best to revive the funk wherever they may play are back tonight, but for a limited engagement. The Atlanta Funk Society closes down their July gig with the final monday at the Five Spot down in Little Five Points. Be sure and check 'em out with 2 sets of funky as cover tunes. Show begins at 10; Spencer Garn (he of the Soulphonics, and Super Dynamite Express will sit in on keys and liven up the crowd with dj sets before and after.
Also, this past friday was George Clinton's 70th birthday, so hopefully you got on the Mothership to wish him a happy journey into his seventies. Hard to believe the man is still rockin' considering all he's been (and put himself through). We'll have more announcements later in the week and of course you can listen to us on 91.1 FM WREK Atlanta -- or streaming at wrek.org -- this and every Thursday night from 11pm to midnight, Eastern time. What's Update
Lot's of really cool events on the upcoming concert calendar. For starters (and sorry this is a little behind, but, hey), the Atlanta Funk Society has been back at their old stomping grounds, The Five Spot, down in L5P, and doing it swell the past couple of Monday nights. This revue has been around the block, but has added some new classics to their repertoire, such as a very jamming version of Stevie Wonder's Contusion. Old standbys from James Brown, Ohio Players, and Heatwave are still up their sleeves. In addition to the new tracks, they've added some new constituents with a full horn section and extended rhythm section, they're sporting a 10-piece look on stage. The crowd has been pretty hype, too, so hopefully they can parlay it into a more regular gig, as they play out the rest of the Mondays in July.
I Feel like there's tons more to update you on, since its been so long, but my mind escapes me sometimes. Stay tuned to this space for updates and hopefully a posted playlist for this week's show.
And that's just getting us started... The rest of the concert calendar, aka, What's Up with What's Going Down looks like this for the coming weeks:
- Etowah River Music Fest (The Funky Fiasco, Vertigo Jazz Project, Uncle Joe's Medicine Show and Stretch, etc.) - Etowah River Campgrounds - Fri/Sat. 7/22/11-7/23/11
- Atlanta Funk Society - The Five Spot - Mon. 7/25/11
- Temptations / Four Tops - Chastain Amphitheatre - Wed. 7/27/11
- Rebirth Brass Band - Smith's Olde Bar – Thurs/Fri 7/28/11-1/29/11
- Super Dynamite Express w/ Ruby Velle 3, Mamarazzi – The Five Spot – Fri. 7/29/11
- Soulphonics feat. Ruby Velle - Vinyl - Fri. 8/19/11
- Return to Forever - Fox Theatre – Thur. 9/8/11
- Medeski, Martin, & Wood - Variety Playhouse - Thur. 11/10/11

Etowah River Music Festival
Should be a funky good time out in the woods this weekend, folks. Pull up some campground and enjoy plenty of funk and other live acts at this year's Etowah River Music Fest near Dahlonega, GA. The festival takes place on the Etowah River Campgrounds, so there should be plenty of space available. Loads of 'friends of the Boogaloo' will be in attendance and/or performing as well. Be sure and show your love and support for The Funky Fiasco, Vertigo Jazz Project, Uncle Joe's Medicine Show and Stretch. Special thanks to the Good Foot Promotions for helping to put this all together.
Go here for all the details. And stay tuned to the E-Boogaloo blog. We'll have some more announcements as well as last night's playlist posted soon enough. I know it's been a while, y'all. Hang with us.

No Boogie Last Night. Loads of Soul Tonight!
Much to the dismay of dozens, The Electric Boogaloo was not heard last night, due to an extended Georgia Tech Baseball broadcast. The Jackets did us solid by winning 6-5 in 15 innings, but they ran over the funk, finishing the game after midnight. We'll be extra dirty next week. Promise.
That said, we didn't get a chance to talk (on-air, anyway) with our scheduled guest, friend of the show and bassmaster (not the fishing kind)\ Mr. Kevin Scott, late of Soulphonics and current of Atlanta Funk Society. I did get to chat with him in studio while waiting out the diamond duel, and he's definitely staying busy. Lots of new Funk Society covers in the work, still playing with Col. Bruce regularly, re-locating his domicile/recording lab from Little 5 to Reynoldstown, among other things.
He'll be playing with AFS as well as old mates The Soulphonics (w Ruby Velle, of course) TONIGHT, Friday May 27 as part of the Atlanta All-Star Soul Revue out at the EARL. That's what would have headlined the "What's Up With What's Going Down" portion of the program if, you know, we actually had a program last night. Oh well. Until next week, vibe on some Grooveline by AFS and check out the rest of the events listed below.
Here is What's Up With What's Going Down in Atlanta coming up. Some nice shows this weekend:

That Funky Uncle and Other Announcements
Alright, it appears that I may have bit off more than I could chew in keeping this blog thing up to date. The good news is Facebook has changed their group configuration, making it much harder to locate all of the Electric Boogaloo-approved events for our weekly What's Up with What's Going Down. Thus, I think I may abandon the group and make those posts here instead. At the least, I'll list them here weekly, and try to make more frequent posts here to keep you attuned to the goings on about town as well as what is coming up on the Boogaloo.
That said, we've got some special guests coming on this week's (5/19//11) show. Jeff Jeswald and Brian Didsbury of Uncle Joe's Medicine Show will be joining us. They've got a gig this weekend at The Five Spot, where they'll be opening for Asheville's own, Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band. I'm unofficially dubbing it the Booty Medicine tour, 2011! This show is going to be slamming, so make sure you tune in for a chance to win tickets as well as to hear some funky ass music. And if you don't win free tickets, keep it in mind, as it should surely get the hips moving of all in attendance.
Lots of other good shows coming up in the near future, so here is What's Up with What's Going Down in A-town:
- Raphael Saadiq - Variety Playhouse - Wed. 5/18/11
- Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band / Uncle Joe's Medicine Show - Sat. 5/21/11
- Atlanta All Star Soul Revue (Ruby Velle & Soulphonics, Atlanta Funk Society, George Hughley, Michelle Marshall) - The EARL - Fri. 5/27/11
- Karl Denson's Tiny Universe / Atlanta Funk Society - The Masquerade - Wed. 6/1/11
- Grupo Fantasma - The EARL Fri 6/17/11
Stay tuned for more announcements in the near future, and be sure to keep it fonkay!

The Much Ballyhooed Return of the E-Boogie Blog!!
Well it's been a while, folks. 4+ years to be not much more exact. I'm resurrecting this blog for the people because so many (read: zero) have requested its return. And trust me, I'm not trying to tie this in with the recent Easter Sunday, either.
Since our last post, we've seen a lot change in the world of funk, soul, jazz, r+b, hip-hop, and blues and not to mention this little window we call the Internet. Social media has taken over people's lives so much to the fact that we don't even need professional news outlets, let alone blogs, to tell us what to think. In steps the Electric Boogaloo! Always a few years late to the technology party, we hope to not tell you what to think. Rather, we will tell you what we think about what is going on in Atlanta and the world, in particular, in soul music. That way, you can form your own opinions and biases against our own. So there it is. Our re-mission statement. Er, statements.
Anyway, we'll have a guest in studio for this week's show, The Funky Fiasco. They'll be talking about and giving away some passes to their upcoming gig at the Funko de Mayo, going on May 5, at The Five Spot. We'll also tell you What's Up With What's Going Down, our weekly calendar of the stone grooves to check out in and around the city of Atlanta.
So, while the blog may have been on hiatus, you could always (and still can) check us out live each and every Thursday at 91.1 fm in Atlanta, or streaming live, worldwide, at WREK.org. And if you ever miss the show, you can pick up a stream of the latest episode from right here. We look forward to serving you and hope not to burn out too quickly this time around!!
